Heck yes on the refugium! Why not use the nitrates for some good? Grow some chaeto and tridacnas love nitrates. There are people that have dosed nitrates and had huge growth in their clams. Toss...

I use hot water shortest cycle and bleach. Hey what size and micron do you guys use on your tanks. I sometimes worry that mine strips too much out.

Ohh yeah..... mangroves only very slowly pull out phosphates and nitrates. They can also if used in large numbers (which wouldnt be many in your tank) can reduce mg fairly quickly.
