those surface skimmers suck and for a filter like an fx5 it would easily overpower is skimming ability i use the skimmer portion of a hob overflow and stick the intake in the box, its a little big...

I have short arms i like 20-22 inches gives u some height but not so much u cant still reach bottom and at 3 ft wide that will make a big difference to u at some point.

I had a baby dwarf zebra lion in my 55 gallon he is now a solid 10...
