I agree with Squeak. A RO/DI unit is a BASIC piece of equipment that EVERY Reefer should have.
It doesn't matter where your water comes from, it's still going to need to be filtered.

An easy way to see if the can is actually releasing phosphates is to test before adding the water to the can, wait the normal amount of time that it would take to mix/stabilize the water and retest....

I have an Hanna Low range phosphate photometer to test my tank with. When I see the phosphates increasing I change out the media.
