Siphon Break? Where do the holes go?!

I'm in the process of putting the plumbing on my sump together and remembered about drilling holes for a siphon break...

Over the past 2 years, my shallow sandbed (less than 2") has slowly diminished - through vaccuming little bits during water changes...

I have that skimmer! It took a while to hook it up correctly - and the instruction manual is wrong in a few places.. for example - the pump should only be an inch down into the water - not 8-9...
