I have one opinion if it does not work why did the aquarist before us even think of this idea and if you think of this fuge only as a pod haven you're wrong if the algae is not taking in nutrients...

Nice tanks but as many of you say lots of NATURAL reef crests are clean and are not all sandbeds so should appreciate the time and dedication they put into their tanks. Also the cash put into them.
