Mine also regularly hops in and out of my overflow (always on the pod hunt). I use a section of fiberglass screen (pet screen from my local HD) to keep him from getting pulled into the sump.

That hadn't even occurred to me, but you're right. In my area, the 4 lines are usually $50-60, but the 6 lines are $25-30. I think I paid $50 for mine.

They need to be cleaned pretty frequently. Having a handful of them is a real time saver. I rinse mine off pretty thoroughly, then wash 4 of them at once.

I use a cannister because my sump and fuge are fairly small. If you have a large enough fuge and sump, I would just get a handful of filter socks.
