yea it can be run outside of water, dont know how loud it will be though. Just run a hose and give her a try outside of the water to give you an idea about how loud it will be.

you can build your own fish trap out of a 2 liter bottle and it works well.
Just cut the top off so its large enough to let the fish in then cut the bottle again where the bottle straitens out....
