I use GFO and carbon in mine all the time. Sometimes separate other times mixed. I also use either PURA or polyfilter as the top layer.

Only have a canister filter on my FOWLR not my reef.

yup... my PH issue is due to co2 issues. I already use outside air to my skimmer. I open windows when i can but that window of opportunity is very short these days. Poorly insulated yet very airtight...

Correct, I use the calculator often and the 400ml of 2part is what should raise it. Problem is that its falling faster than ever.

I do not use a sock for 2 reasons - 1) nitrates 2) I don't want to filter food/fauna from the water.

I still use one when i am doing a "blow out" and a water change to catch the stuff i stir up.
