I would definately get the black clowns for a 12...

I would definately get the black clowns for a 12 nano since maroons get much larger than blacks. I would also go with the RBTA

I am guessing it is a silica based sand. Silica sand isnt necessarily a bad thing, although some report algae blooms. It just lacks the buffering an aragonite sand has.
