I have 3 of them over my 140 in Lumen bright reflectors. They are great bulbs with very high PAR for that wattage. I run them with the ARO ballast and gets amazing numbers.

jsut as long as its a single ended bulb, no worries. but the double ended or (HQI) bulbs need that UV shield (not just a piece of glass, has to be UV treated)

I wouldnt even do that. Glass will reduce your PAR. besides the bulbs should be atleast 4+" off water. If you have water splashing up that high, thats no good. Little splashing here and there...

youre gonna get better growth on 10Ks because they have a higher PAR. The higher K you go, the lower your PAR will be. Most places use 20K lightsing because it helps pop the colors of the corals...

your tank sounds like mine. I have acrylic and the bulbs are 12" from the surface.....I think. I'll have to look back and see for sure, but I'm almost 100% sure of that. I havnt noticed any issues...

I'll go as far as to say the numbers are "superior" with 175's too! Check a look at my PAR readings....and my tank is 24" deep as well.
