hmm ok thanks, think it might be better just to get a 50gal drum and make the water and mix with salt and then just move water out of the tank and the ro/salt mix into the tank.

Thanks for the compliments, i wouldn't cut a u shape out I'd do an oval and leave some material accross the top for bracing, by cutting out the top of it you are effectively weakening the tank along...
