i just picked up the seachem mg test kit... kind of a pita, as you have to filter the initial solution then measure the mg via titration, but it seems to be accurate, according to the reference...

by the way, are the centers on that green? if so, it isnt an orange crush... it's an agent orange, which is generally more rare and valuable than orange crush :)

pH buffers generally do exactly what you described; they'll provide a temporary rise in pH along with a less temporarly rise in alk. Even after pH has fallen, alk still stays elevated....
