Capnella split - two stalks on one rock now

What's the best (easiest) way to break the piece of live rock. It's approximately 4 inches by 3 inches and about 1 inch thick.

It states on the tube to remove the old sealant, as the new may not adhere very well. Is this true? This is a 72 in long tank, and I'd rather not risk creating more leaks...
