Turboflotor 1000
 

I've narrowed my search for a skimmer for my 125 gallon sump. I'd really like to avoid the 300 for a Aqua C in sump, and I'd rather go with a Turboflotor 1000. Any strong feelings either pro or con with this decision? Is it a good skimmer?

Mine has been going strong for three years now.

Just clean it every few months.

I like mine.... you'll need a maxi jet 400 or 600w/ a ball valve or a similar pump to operate it unless you run it off of an overflow which doesn't make alot of sense to me since it's only 1/2" tubing you can use for the intake.

w/o the ballvalve, will the pump be too much? I haven't set mine up yet b/c it wouldn't fit in my sump, but I had planned on running it straight off the overflow. I'm assuming if I do it this way it won't get enough flow in to do a whole lot?

A MJ900 without a valve is perfect for mine. No adjustments necessary and it skims like crazy.

Are you guys running the T1000 with the OR pump recirculating? Mine is set up so the OR pumps from the sump to the skimmer, working as air injection and as feed pump.

ANyone got any pics?

every few months???

man...that would be nice..i have to clean myine almost weekly, i must have a really dirt tank or a really good skimmer.:D

I have had mine for 2 years now and it's going strong, a good 1 to 2 cups of dark soopy gunk a week, I omly clean mine every 2 weeks or so, power it with a 250 to 300 gph power head and ir will work fine.
P.S. I think it works better dirty that right after a good cleaning.

I have to clean the entire skimmer every few months.

I get about a cup of gunk once a week.

its a good skimmer if you have limited space, and have to go small. if you have room you might keep looking. get the max for your money. you might look at the ASMs or the other brand like them.

What do you mean? With the Ocean Runner pump hooked up, the length is something like 15".

I've found that they tend to leak where the bio ball basket hooks up to it

well im talking about space diamiter plus pump for skimmers in the $200 price range the octopus 200 or even thier down darft gives you MUCH!! more bang for the buck. but thier bigger skimmers, you have to have the room. the dia on the octopus is 7.8" plus pump
