reseal a tank?
 

i should be getting a 55 gallon for free soon how hard is it to re seal? anyone ever do it?also is foster and smith the best place to buy the sealeant and how many tubes do i need to buy. Thanks Andrew

One should be enough, but get a backup squeeze tube from home depot, you can return it when your done, providing there's enough strength left in your hands after scraping silicone.

BTW - one- as in one caulk tube.

I just resealed an old 40 for a frag tank. Not to hard, scraping out the old stuff is a pain. At Menards they had small tubes of aquarium safe silicone, but if you compare the labels carefully you can get a big one for your caulking gun for half the price...same stuff. If you want a really nice finished look it helps to put masking tape about a half inch from the joint on both sides.

Okay Iceman, here's the info...

DAP brand 100% Silicone Rubber Sealant, Clear.
ASTM C-920, Class 25, Type S, Grade NS (these are the same specs as on the Aquarium Sealant.) P.S. It reeks.

Blue tube, yellow stripe.

One other tip: Keepeing your finger wet when you smooth it makes it much easier. Have fun.
