Another question on the bugs
I just treated for rb's (all three treatments). I just got two blastomussa and a zoa colony from someone who has red bugs. How do I responsibly go about adding things to the tank without risking reintroducing the bugs? Will all new addition corals need to go through the treatment to be sure, or is there an easier way?

Wow. Tons of traffic here. Has no one out there added anything to their tanks after treating without treating what they add three times?
|
just dip them first in reef dip or iodine solution of some kind before putting in tank.

I read on another thread that Tropic Marin (Marine?) has a new dip that knocks off rb and fw
|
I don't think any "reef dips" kill the bugs at any strength. I caught the bugs and I treated and dipped EVERYTHING. What I do now is set up a 5 gal bucket with 2 gallons of tank water and a power head. Grind some interceptor (I use about 6X the recommended amount) and place in the bucket. Acclimate the corals and keep in bucket for about 4 hours.

If I don't QT [remember, 5 days of QT in a non-Acropora tank should rid you of bugs ...] then I treat with interceptor.
Unless I know the tank well + it's safe ... but that's not the case here. |

I read on another thread that Tropic Marin (Marine?) has a new dip that knocks off rb and fw
Yup so far my frags look bug free and I had 2 AEFW's come off also. Not set in stone but did the trick . I will be doing more once my dipped sps look normal again. Other than that Interceptor kills them for sure. But if used in a display it can kill more than we want. |
Cool. I have them in a frag tank now with no acros (not really enough light for them). I wasn't sure if we had a better idea of the life cycle of the little nasties yet. I've got a frag swap in 10 days, so I didn't want to have to take these with me and tell people they weren't for sale.
Thanks for the help. I'm following the Tropic Marin thread pretty closely, too:). |
I teat eveything with interceptor and flatworm exit no matter what. I float the bag and add some interceptor "dust" to the bag along with one drop of flat worm exit. Works every time.
