styrene model
will styrene meodel plane break down in salt water? i dont know about chemistry so i leave it up to u to teach me
The polystyrene part of the model might be fine, but the paints and other finishes could be a problem. I wouldn't trust anything like that in my tank.
I agree. :)
The styrene or the finishes and paints ? Is the plastic part ok ?
Polystyrene itself is likely OK. Paints may not be.
are there safe paints ?
Most paints won't tell you exactly what is in them, so it can be impossible to say.
What are the fake decors made out of or is that a pre-colored plastic ?
or how about painting something then sealing it with a clear epoxy or something along those lines ?
There certainly are dyes and likely commercial paints that are OK, we just cannot identify which ones will be OK.
You could possibly stain it purple with PVC primer used for water pipes and sold at places like Home Depot. |
well i guess ill be the test dummy its a dirty job but someone has to do it, saying that which paint would u recommend. ( as good as a contract i will in no shape or form hold you responsible for anything weird or cool that happens to my tank) :-)
I don't really know, but I'd avoid any with rust or mold inhibitor claims.
how does wood do under saltwater ?
Try Krylon paints, they have been used in PVC piping under water with no issues.
Avoid any crommed pieces of the model as well as any metalic looking paint, they are most likely aluminized or have copper particles. Styrene in itself will be OK, most eggcrate used in the hobby for frag supports is styrene just insure to wash the pieces well to remove any unmoulding agents. Finally aquarium wise it is preferable to use CA glue to assemble the model rather than the solvent based one. |
