visiting the twin cities monday through wednesday this upcoming week.
any good reef stores to check out in the area?

thanks greater minnesota reefers!

benihana 01/05/2008 10:37 PM

There are actually a lot of stores in the MSP area...what city/area will you be in? Let me know and I will give you a couple to go visit.

Torpus 01/05/2008 11:05 PM

Ill be in the st paul area but I think we'll be going to IKEA and really are willing to drive to a good store with decent prices and pretty, healthy corals, which are your favorites??

Im looking to pick up some ricordia floridas and some colorful zoanthids. If any local reefers have any for sale too that would an option!!

thanks benihana!

I have these available - all of them are already fragged, and at about 20 polyps each. Normally they go for $2/polyp, but I am doing $1/polyp for them. You can see pictures in this thread - http://archive.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1274433&perpage=25&pagenumber=2 go almost all the way down on page two.

- Eagle Eyes -
- Blue/Purple/Red
- Green Bay Packers

I work about 5 miles west of IKEA, so we could work something out during the days you are there.

Let me know if you are interested

As far as fish stores go, there are quite a few in that area. There are two older stores - Something Fishy & World of Fish. Both of these stores have a decent amount of saltwater stuff, but IMO are WAY overpriced.

There are two new stores - Saltwater Empire and Ocean Devotion that have a TON more livestock and at much more reasonable prices.

I would just check www.dexknows.com for their phone numbers and addresses.

sounds great Im sending you a pm

any one else in the area have ricordea floridas??

benihana 01/05/2008 11:55 PM

The only ones I know of are at a store by me...I think he sells them for about $25-$45/polyp...not really sure if that is expensive or not...if you want me to pick some up for you, let me know

On hwy 10 in ramsey there is a really good reef store. There is coral propagation tanks, 1 Really big one. Is there any good reef stores in bemidji is the question.

Torpus 01/06/2008 10:23 PM

do you know what the reef store in ramseys called??

Skipponator 01/07/2008 02:23 AM

There is not jack in Bemidji, that is why I would drive to the cities just for stuff on a regular basis!

benihana 01/07/2008 07:56 AM

The store in Ramsey is called Premier Pets. It is OK, and has a decent amount of SW fish, but not much in the way of corals when compared to Ocean Devotion or Saltwater Empire.

Pets of Ramsey Premier

I got 3 colonies there a few years ago and they are all still alive. Have been there many other times and just got some little stuff. But there coral looks great every time i have been there.

skip there is a good store in duluth you might like. They have lots of fish and are getting into sps fragging now. That is at fish world.

MN. Reef crzy 01/07/2008 07:59 AM

Well the few times i was in there it seemed like alot but i have only been there maybe 5 times in 2 or 3 years.

benihana 01/07/2008 08:05 AM

While they do/did have more of a selection than most stores, the two stores mentioned above have a better selection and better atmosphere, far and away

Home_Depot 01/07/2008 08:15 PM

No THAT is desperate!! :)

Home_Depot 01/07/2008 10:23 PM

You have to go were the goods are!!!

benihana 01/07/2008 10:37 PM

I was in the pet store by the mall last summer and they did have one tank with saltwater in it...not too much for livestock, but at least they were trying...are they overpriced or can't get the stuff you want/need....maybe both??

Home_Depot 01/07/2008 11:01 PM

Both and the people there don't know nothing I think they would rather sell cats and dogs oh ya did I say very overpriced I can drive to Grand Forks and get it cheaper even with the price of gas.

benihana 01/07/2008 11:27 PM

that is kind of what I thought...it makes me wonder how people can stay in business when they practically rape the consumer who is willing to purchase from them...oh well...I guess it is Darwin's theory of evolution for business! :)

MN. Reef crzy 01/08/2008 07:45 AM

usually you get what you pay for.

I Agree...to a certain extent. while I am willing to support a LFS, I am not willing to spend $90 on a pump that I know I can get online for $35 shipped...just seems a little crazy and even borders on being a little rude.

fishbou55 01/08/2008 11:11 AM

all reef in stillwater is good www.all-reef.com

Home_Depot 01/08/2008 08:30 PM

I agree with you 100% Ben I would love to give my LFS the money but he even told me he can't beat the prices of the online vendors.
