RO/DI Unit?
 

I am looking at getting an RO/DI unit. I am wanting to use it for both drinking and aquarium. Are there any suggestions? And is there any difference between the RO units they make for drinking and the ones for aquariums. I know Purely H2o has two different systems one for drinking and one for aquariums.

They mentioned to unplug the DI unit out first and just use the R/O for drinking...

for the 1st one: I heard that horizontal DI's do not work as well, bc/ the water channels across instead of through which minimizes the contact with the resin.

I think it is btwn the 2nd and third one, I would go with the third, bc you are getting 25 more gpd for only 20 or so dollars.....

So it is between melves and two part solutions. Two part is $149 and the next one for the filter guys is $160 and and melves is $169 so it is more expensive but it is 100gpd but I don't know if I need 100gpd. I am also leaning towards melves since it is already set up for aquarium or drinking since it has a valve after the RO. But two part is cheaper and I could do the valve my self.

I would stick with the 75 gpd. The 100 gpd is not as efficient.

/\ what do you mean? Doesn't it still have the same 4:1 waste to pure water ratio?

the 75gpd membrane has a 98% rejection rate and the 100gpd only has a 90% rejection rate

With the DowFilmtec membranes the 75 gpd has a better rejection than the 100gpd, however it will still be in between 92-98%. The best is a hand selected, tested membrane to get the 98% ratio.

ok my opinions
1) if you get this one all you would need to do is buy the RO Bypass valve (same page as the unit, under price, instead of the 12$ kit) to get drinking water
2) Only has 4 stages, would have to add DI= more $
3)IMO The one to get, 5 stages, with drinking water kit, 100gpd
4) Link doesnt work

I would also look at filters and use that to compare, include how much the filters, membrane, and shipping would cost.

If you are going with Filter Guys get nothing less than the Ocean Reef +1. You will want the full size vertical DI, pressure gauge and TDS meter for sure. I am not a fan of inline TDS meters as thye are not as accurate as handhelds and you lose the portability that is so great with a handheld. I would ask to swap the inline for a handheld.

With Purely H2o get noting less than the Optima Vision, again so you get the full size DI and a pressure gauge. Add a handheld TDS meter and maybe an RO bypass so you can also use RO only water.

Melevs unit is a very good choice if you add an inline pressure gauge and a hand held TDS meter. He already provides the RO bypass.

The AWI link does not work, but you would want nothing less than the Typhoon III.

I would add the [url]www.buckeyefieldsupply.com[/url] 75 GPD Premium system to the mix. It includes a handheld TDS meter and inline pressure gauge as well as a flush valve(which I personally think is a sales gimmick but you get it none the less) and an adjustable flow restrictor.

My personal favorite and the unit I presently own is thye MaxCap system from [url]www.spectrapure.com[/url] , it is by far the Cadillac of RO/DI systems due to it being the only system on the market with 100% individually hand tested and guaranteed RO membranes and custom blended DI resins in a dual DI system.
