Reef Meet?
 

After going to the Richmond meet it reminds me that we have to have another meet here and maybe do a clam/coral buy. I had such a great time in Richmond and it was all about the hobby and not how much $$$$ you can sell your frags for. Almost make me want to move to Richmond.
I know that there are a bunch of great looking tanks here in the valley just a shame that we don't get to see them.
Host anybody?

I'm in for a clam....and some corals... My wife and my oldest daughter will be out of town this Friday and Saturday. It'll just be me and the little girl. I'm not sure I could host but I need to get rid of some xenia and a few other corals so I could have a few folks over maybe Saturday morning??? I'd like to have everyone but with a 6 week old it doesn't really lend itself to a full blown meet. But if you feel like making the trip in ade (steve(s)) eric and whomever else you all are welcome to come and get some stuff or even help me frag it....of course I'd love some frags too. I'd have to say no kids though as the baby is pretty sensitive to germs and such. Let me know what you all think and we can go from there..... Sorry to put such restrictions but at least I'm trying.

I am all for a "get-together" whenever....But as far as a Reef-Meeting we should try to get someone to commit to hosting in January , and organize a few different raffles.....

If your baby is sensitive to germs then you won't want Ade or Eric to come over. :D I would also like to tag along and see your tank. Looks like you have been getting some nice corals. I don't think that we have met yet? Michael R

the clams we got in the richmond group buy came from ORA. but i was told that this time of year is the end of the season for clam collecting....so ORA is stretched thin in what they had left. the batch we got was a mix of first grade and ultra's....but i couldn't tell the difference except for 1 awesome one we left at the store.

we were originally going to go through reefscience.....as they had a decent deal that put it around $23/clam. but i'm sure the clams wouldn't have been nearly as nice as the ORA ones. probably allot of brown ones.

i tried to go through chris to get the ORA clams.....but he never got back in touch with me. so marvin at atlantis put something together for us at the very last minute.

maybe chris can put together an ORA shipment and get some of those ORA deepwater corals in the same order as the clams.

Michael. ha ha ha yeah I am a bit worried about Eric too...he he he .... I'd love to meet you man and my tank is pretty ready for showing I guess. I went to Chads last night and he has a killer tank!! Nice mix of corals and fish. My tank is pretty small but we should definately try and get something going for Saturday if possible. I told Chad to come on by and get some xenia (brown and gold pulsing type not the pink although I have that too) and anything else I can frag for him as he hooked me up huge.

Surfn - I saw the clam that Chad got from the meet and it is bad a$$!!!! Beautiful color! I'd like to get one of those myself!!!

Michael - If you want I can PM you my number or I know Eric has it if you are free Saturday... Chad you got it too so call me if ya'll want to get together!!!!

By the way...if anyone has a KH/Alk and a CA test kit to test my water I'll hook you up ...with something ..not sure what but I'd like to know where my levels are and I won't be able to get out and get test kits until next weekend at the earliest. Thanks

I think that if there is going to be a get together we should start a seperate thread for it ...That would help those interested in going to find all the info about it there and I think the intent of Ades original post was to see if we could organize something in the future that would be a substantial size meeting with some planning put into it , with some raffles and such.. ... Just my opinion ...

If we can get someone to host for Jan, then we can go to the next step and and get people in for clam/corals buy. It would be nice to have the time to have a good meet. I don't mind hosting again, but there are a lot of tanks out there that I have yet to see and most of you have seem my tanks.

I'll be in the middle of a move in January so that month will be bad for me and Feb too. Not that it matters but just putting it out there.

I was just trying to get a few guys together that expressed some interest. I figuered that this forum was the best place to do that, but perhaps not. I didn't think that we had to have a huge planned meet for some folks to get together as a casual quick get together....say hi, trade frags talk tanks and drink a beer. With kids and family that are young even the best planned days can turn out to be not the best time so..... that is why I said ya'll come on over. You are still more than welcome to stop by if you are in Roanoke ade....and those of you that got PM can call me if you like or have time..... it doesn't have to be just saturday either. Just call and we can get together. Thats what I like about these forums is to chat and meet informally and sometimes with out it being 20 or 30 people at a time.. you get more direct communication and its less stress. Just my .02.

Thats cool to get together informally, I like that also.
I started this thread in the hope to get a meet for the near future.
If you invite guys and gals over for an informal gathering to trade and drink beer a new post would be the best way.
20-30 people , you must have been talking about another group, a meet arund here would be more like 5-10 and that's if you are giving stuff away.
The last Richmond meet was around 40-50 people. Now that was a meet.
What we have is an informal get together.
Sorry to sond like an *** but I am just trying to say on track.

Future meet. We need a host, a date and from there we can talk about clam/coral purchases.

I tell you all what... I'lll voluneer to have it at my house at the end of January if you all will help me move my tank and build a sump out of my 29!?? It's only a 29 gal and I have a 38 to move it too.... so?? Unless anyone has a 55gal I can purchase instead.. Alright, it's a dance off!

with all the people who go through UA in the area......you'd think there would be more people interested in participating in a club. i know it used to be that the Roanoke crowd was small......and the Blacksburg crowd kinda carried all the *active* members.

seems now there is no one left in the 'burg, and its all Roanokers.....but still not as many here as are represented by the amount of business UA gets.

see if you can post a flyer in UA with a link to this forum....maybe that will help round up some more people to have a bigger gathering.

I think it would be cool to have a UA bar-b-que or something...I mean not many of us have as much stuff as chris does.... plus like surfn said it would be great for business. It'd be like Breakin' 2 Electric Boogaloo!!!!!
