wow 4x4x2! its gonna be tough getting to the bottom of that tank.
ideas for stocking? |
Keep up the updates, I will definitely be watching this one!
|
I hope you have long arms lol great start!
|
here is right side of tank with my "sump" fitted this will house my skimmer and ultralith reactor and pumps to drive my surge devices the area will be covered in eggcrate so that fish cant get in , but water will have free movment!

tagging along.
|
well tonight i have fitted all , well almost all the wood in place and am waiting for the wood glue to dry now , you can see the sump section now and the opening size to it , should allow the skimmer plenty of water flow i will be coating the tank in resin as soon as it arrives all the joints will be covered in resin cloth first then the resin painted over it , i am not adding any colour pigments to the epoxy as it weakens it , but since all the tank back and sides will be coved in foam i dont care !
 |
Nice, awfully deep though. What type of lights are you going to run?
|
400w mh 10k lights stocking will be sps at the top , down to lps and zoos etc near the bottom , fish wise , a shoal of yellow tangs 5 or 6 , and anthius again 5 or 6 maybe a few surprises!
i dont want to disturb the tank to much once built so once i dawn the scuba mask and swimming cap ot get to the bottom to place the corals , hopefully they will look after there selves! |
well guys i dont have time for a write up at the moment , so i will post my build pics so far!

Nice build.
Do you have any closeups of the framing? It looks like it is just welded angle iron, right? How did you determine the required thickness/strength? |
yes frame is 2" x 2" x 5mm angle iron , shot blast then rustproofed , the ply is double thickness 18mm so 36 mm ply all round 3 coats of exopy resin cloth all over all joints , then joints siliconed , foam will be resined as well once dried to hold it down then coated with sand ,
