Are any of the skimmers HOB? Also, I need some live rock. Do you have any for sale?

turbois300 01/02/2008 08:27 AM

Hey anchor10 - Eric (nbmaxx?) I think has a bunch of live rock. Maybe try him also. That prizm skimmer is a HOB i'm pretty sure.

kjo 01/02/2008 07:17 PM

The Prizm skimmers hang on the back. Sorry no liverock for sale, We dispersed it among our remaining tanks, and my 120 gallon tank at the office.

anchor10 01/03/2008 12:25 AM

Thanks for the tip on the live rock. I went to Eric's tonight and got some great live rock. I'd be interested in the Prizm skimmer if someone else doesn't take it -- but I probably won't be ready for it till later this month.

turbois300 01/03/2008 09:08 AM

Good stuff!!! Glad you got hooked up. Eric is a great guy and he's got some good live stock and such!!

Just a side note - you may want to put a skimmer on the tank you just put rock into if you don't already have one. As with ANY live rock you add, you might experience some die off and that could cause a small cycle to start or algae bloom ect. ..

10-4 on the skimmer... Got one on this tank. I have a 29 in the basement -- my original s.w. tank. I've been robbing it slowly as I convert the 72 into a (hopefully) mixed reef. The 29 will become a clownfish tank in the future -- but I'm hesitant to spread my attention too thin right now.

Ahh the 29. That is what I started with and after years, am back to it now. They are just the perfect size to get stocked and with a few months of growth look all natural and full. I'm getting ready to move into the county and since I gave Eric my 72 bow I'm forced to get something larger....... maybe. I too am thinking about 2 tanks. 1 - larger fish and softies and the other either a 38 that I have or just the 29 as a SPS / clam tank. I'm just worried that with another new house and a baby that I won't have the time for all of that. If I could just get everything automated like top off and dosing I think that would allow me to do it. You have to love technology.....if you can afford it that is.

Steve you can do automated cheap if all you are talking about is top off. Cleaning your skimmer and doing water changes is a horse of a different color.

turbois300 01/03/2008 04:07 PM

he he he... yeah I'm trying to automate my daughter into doing those chores.... hah aha ha. Yeah right.

Yes if I could get an ATO set up for cheap that would be great. Any pointers?

ade 01/03/2008 08:50 PM

Draw a line on your tank and tell you wife not to let the water to go below the line. lol.
No I use a float switch with a auqalifter pump and a 7 gal container from WalMart for my auto top off. I just have to fill the 7 gallon tub every week. The only reason I use a 7 gal tub is so that if the switch sticks I only empty whats left in the tub. I have heard of stories of hooking up ATO direct with their ro/di and the switch sticking and dumping gallons of fresh water into their tank.

Ade... How 'bout a photo of that?

ade 01/04/2008 01:54 PM

Sorry KJO for the hijack

Thats all good if you want to drop around 200 bones in a ATO. You can do the same thing for less half.
How about we move to a new thread about ATO.

kjo 01/05/2008 09:44 AM
