skimmer vs green water
Hi,
Is there anyway that "green water" can affect a skimmer's production? Case in point I had a green water problem ( I'm talking pea soup green couldn't see the fish unless they were right up on the glass) anyway the foam head dropped every once in a while thoughout the day. I didn't have my hands in the tank or at the time it dropped there was no food presant. Also as of this past saturday I have broken down my tank and moved all the critters to another tank. I put the same skimmer back on the temporary tank and the foam head hasn't dropped once. So as I said above can green water affect a skimmer negatively? Idea's or thoughts? TIA |
Your skimmer should pull out alot of green, it shouldn't be affected.

What were you doing that led to such bad conditions?

what kind of skimmer?
why isnt it doing its job and keeping the green water away? |

As the skimmer's did the only problem was that every now and then the foam head would drop without my interference.
What were you doing that led to such bad conditions?
Switch salts from IO to Seachem. The water went from cloudy to green after the switch. In the holding tank I went back to IO.
what kind of skimmer?
Deltec APF600 and a Tunze 9010 not at the same time mind you this green water has existed since this past May. The reason I've messed with it this long was that I was looking for a solution rather then a quick fix with a UV. Breaking down the tank was a last resort.
why isnt it doing its job and keeping the green water away?
Good question.. Ofcoarse I have read that once it (green water) gets a foot hold it's just about impossible to get rid of. |
skim
keep the skimmer going non stop till its all gone just be preparded to lose lots of water. lol good luck. skim away

Usually the green is from your water source. Its an algae bloom and the worst thing is to keep changing water as the water is the problem. It will fix itself over time, but is super annoying. Keep the skimmer goin.
