DC8 / DC4 Group Buy?

I found other clubs that have done DC8 and/or DC4 group buys and the price was actually reasonable (compared). I just ordered a used ACjr and getting the DC8/4 on the cheap appears to be the hard part...

Sounds like we'll need to get 6 to qualify. I haven't verified this, just took it from what the other group posted.

If you have a Neptune controller, and you could use an extra, let's pool our purchasing power!

ThunderDog 11/15/2007 08:03 PM

Depending on the price I'm interested in a DC8

KMP 11/15/2007 10:14 PM

sounds great - need prices. interested in either; AQ Jr can only control 4 more, but might do the 8.

loup 11/15/2007 10:28 PM

I'll be in for DC8 depending on price

kevin95695 11/15/2007 10:54 PM

I called Neptune, and they told me they can't do direct to reef clubs. So I pm'd the dude from the other club to request contact info for his middle-man. I'm waiting to hear back from him.

The other club was claiming $130/ea shipped for 6-11, $120/ea for 12+ and the organizer was claiming no profit. I don't know his shipping distance from their supplier either...

From what I read if they wanted to do a DC4 GB they had the same minimum, but they didn't talk about price.

So, if I can find out his contact info -- Does the price sound right?

I'm leaning toward a DC4. Can you mix-match or do you have to get all DC8s.

R2D2? C3P0? Que? For those not following the controller model jargon and are interested in making an educated choice for you needs, see the attached link.

I am going to look at it myself as I have been planning on getting one for a while and plan on making it my next "gadget" purchace.

Perhaps you could workout an arangement with one of the LFS or others who are "in the biz" that would be gracious enough to quaterback this for you.

Perhaps, this is an opurtunity for pbieto to get in on?

I am interested, and will have to get back to you.......keep me in mind.

dots 11/15/2007 11:54 PM

This would be an excellent time for those who have controllers to voice thier likes and dislikes......hint, hint

plankton 11/15/2007 11:59 PM

DARN! I bought a DC8 a month ago. Big improvement over normal X10 modules, etc (no click click, reliable switches, softstart, etc).

In comparision I paid $160 from an online place, so $130 would be a good deal.

neptune makes a new wave maker called aquasurf, which is comparable to a tunze controller....any chance we can get a group buy on that?

kevin95695 11/16/2007 12:21 AM

Turns out the guy is eating a couple bucks on each one, so $132 is their 'no profit' price.

He also is going through a retailer. Anyone local who has an uplink to Neptune we could route the business through? Maybe we could help them out?

DC4: Six minimum there too. No mix-n-match. But if we're going to do a Neptune product buy, this is our chance to do a dc8/dc4/aquasurf megagroupbuy if we can pull it off... I would imagine if we could wrangle 6-12 of any given product the supply chain would be very happy, if you know what I mean.

dieselgrk 11/16/2007 12:52 AM

put me down for an aquasurf :)

dots 11/16/2007 01:03 AM

This would be an excellent opportunity to help out our local LFS, if there can be an agreement on who to buy from, I wouldn't mind paying more than the online thing to help give back to one of the stores that have given so much in the past.

Again, its a PR thing and I like killing two birds with one stone.

Yourreef seems to be accomodating on many occasions, perhaps a group buy could be arranged through there or another that would be mutually benificial?

To be quite honest, I would rather spend $10 more and have the money stay local, rather than out of the area.

Thoughts?

dieselgrk 11/16/2007 01:09 AM

dots, i think u make a great point.

dots 11/16/2007 01:12 AM

You mean I don't always? I will have to work on that.:p

Thank you

kevin95695 11/16/2007 01:19 AM

Amen. I want to score a deal, AND I see the sense in supporting our local reef shops. Would LRS be more appropriate than LFS going forward?

Lost in translation, huh?

kevin95695 11/16/2007 02:19 AM

LFS - Local Fish Store, LRS - Local Reef Shop.

We are lucky to have so many LFS/LRS to choose from... Ask any friend who lives anywhere else...

90% of them I want to support. The question becomes: Which of them has a connection to Neptune? I haven't seen any Neptune products on ANY LRS shelves. Have you?

dots 11/16/2007 02:51 AM

LFS is a catch all jargon for all of the above in which its main purpose is to distinguish between local and online in three letters.
Unless, I am so old to as not have kept up with the new hipster lingo...hehehe.

Any should be able to get them through thier suppliers or wholesale. I would suggest when you/we figure out some numbers on which model and about how many, so one could strike a deal. Obviously, your going to be able to swing a better one buying 100 than 10.

I think this is something Paul should be in on it as liason, I am planning on actually going to the meeting tomorrow, if I do I will ambush him with this. I think you should give every store who has donated in the last few months and equal opportunity to bid on this so to keep it fair since it is club associated.

I believe Bruce as well would be able to do order wholesale, and he should naturally be included..........if he so chooses to.

I am more interested in this buy for the relationship building, if I was trying to save money.....I would have goldfish. Its a good way to give back to our contributers and not just take.

But this is your idea, and I have said my peace......and don't want to step on your toes. If you want help, let me know.

bored4long 11/16/2007 08:37 PM

I'm in for a DC4 or DC4-HD (prefer the HD). LMK.

xia 11/17/2007 03:03 AM

Interested in DC8.

kevin95695 11/17/2007 03:17 AM

Looks like we may have enough interest.

Dots: Did you ambush Paul and/or Bruce at the meeting?

kevin95695 11/20/2007 11:26 PM

Can't seem to get this off the ground. Not for lack of interest, but lack of uplink to Neptune. Anybody around here with a good enough relationship with LFS to approach them?

Want this to be good for us (buyers) but also good for them (LFS).

Bueller? Bueller? Anyone?

CORAL REEF ECO-SYSTEMS
Try coral reef eco systems. They're sort of local.
