I have just one little suggestion. I think it would look better centered on the wall instead of being pushed to the left. It would look more balance if centered between the window and the end of the wall where it meets the other wall. Just my opinion for what it's worth.
The kids are adorable. I have a six year old son too, oh and a 5 year old son, a 1 year old son, a 3 year old daughter......

Kannin 12/18/2007 04:27 PM

I haven't decided yet... where to put it. It is just sitting there waiting for me to get behind it and hook up the plumbing. Then I will be slide it to the wall and probably center it.

I'm going to istall my rodi unit this weekend. 100 gpd... hopefully.

jnarowe 12/18/2007 09:40 PM

Before you get too far along, make sure to test your tap water for PO4, Nitrate, Ammonia, etc. so you have an idea what the TDS actually consists of. Also, you should try to investigate how much CO2 is in your tap water as this will use up resin rather quickly.

As my crack dealer once said, "I'm out in my garage... cookin' rock!"

10 gallons and of water and 1 gallon of vinegar with 2 powerheads. I'm figuring on 2 1/2 days in the soup and then I'll rinse it, dry it and see how it smells.

Hoping to start a 180 soon so just tagging along. Amazing work on the stand!!

Kannin 12/20/2007 05:16 PM

TY... With the exception of the shelving unit in the front/right... Inspiration for all of my ideas came from RC.

Kannin 12/21/2007 05:19 PM

Hey... I'm going to do a leak test this weekend. What is the process? Just fill the tank until the over flows fill the sump and then turn on the pumps??? Maybe keep the output on the pumps low to begin with incase there's a big leak. If I find a leak... do I just add more pvc glue to the fitting or do I have to take it apart and start over?

jnarowe 12/21/2007 07:45 PM

If you find a leak, you have to drain the affected area and re-do it. You will just test with tap water anyway right? Once you have done the test, drain the system entirely and make sure to get ALL of the water out down to dry components.

DOn't forget that the plumbing itslef will require a certain volume of water, so be prepared to add more when you fire up the system. Mark any leaks, drain and fix. Then re-test.

Good Luck!! :)

Kannin 12/27/2007 02:42 AM

As you know... I bought the tank used and it came with a sump (pictured below)... very plain... just one small baffle.

Drilled the hole. (it took two Ryobe batteries) Jonas at the lfs loaned me his hole saw. As they cost a fortune once you get above 1.5 inches.

I wanted to keep it pretty simple but, different. I wanted to have two open chambers... one for the skimmer, (ASM G4X) and one for the 3 HOB phosban reactors. I have set it up so that the majority of the water will be directed to the skimmer side.
