Without 4 ways

Loud sump even with Dursos... drilled to end surging... But still loud

For your loud sump gurgle, I would add a T to where your elbow is and have a straight PVC pipe riser going straight up to help reduce the gurgle and keep your water flow below the water line like you currently have.

I also think the ladder you walked into or tripped on while filming was the loudest, LOL.

Here's a photo of what I mean. The pipe is to the right of the skimmer cup with the blue sponge stuffed in the top to stop the bubbles and splash:

ReefDoctorMicromussas 04/16/2007 08:46 PM

Oh OK I see I'll have to try that! that may just work LOL Ya if you watch carefully in the OM 4 way video I also back into a radial arm saw LOL
Thanks Sara

I got to see this monstrosity in the beginning at a club meeting. Now I have to get back over and see this progress. I have to say Doc and his family are awesome people! SUPER NICE setup Doc!

ReefDoctorMicromussas 04/16/2007 10:13 PM

Thanks Jerry :)

erics3000 04/17/2007 08:43 AM

looking great doc... I am sure you are getting excited to see it finally come together. It really does look nice witht he foam and rock wall.

cbui2 04/17/2007 02:08 PM

what pump do you have for OM?

ReefDoctorMicromussas 04/17/2007 02:43 PM

Thank you Erics :) I was initially so nervous about what that would look like but WOW if I do say so myself LOL it looks great :)

I am running 3 X 3600 GPH Darts... One is on each 4way and one is for the sump... In conversations and research with Paul from OM on various pump specs it turns out 3 Darts are really much better than 1 larger say Hammerhead... Better electrical draws, redundancy, flow vs cost ect I was very surprised but I LOVE them :)

ReefDoctorMicromussas 04/17/2007 05:32 PM

Sara B You are pure Genious! :) Thank You

Listen now to how quiet the sump is :)

Corn 04/17/2007 11:41 PM

have you tried putting a sock in the top of the end pipe?

ReefDoctorMicromussas 04/18/2007 06:49 AM

There are sponges there :) they are yellow but for some reason in the video they look invisible LOL

gig 04/18/2007 09:54 AM

I have the same setup in my fuge to my sump, what I did was bought the PVC caps that go over that size tube and drilled holes in them, it reduces noise and splatter.

ReefDoctorMicromussas 04/18/2007 10:47 AM

Nice I thought about that but wondered if it would have been too restrictive? Evidently not

Gig where do you buy your filter socks?

gig 04/18/2007 11:18 AM

...

You can always try it out and if you don't like it, just remove them, as they don't need to be glued on...

I hate way too much salt spray without them, now I just get a bit of creep out of the holes, which are probably 1/4", you could drill bigger holes.

my LFS sells the filter bags, but you can go on the Precision Marine website and buy them on line, they are 100 micron bags, with nice handles built in and a solid ring that keeps them open.

ReefDoctorMicromussas 04/18/2007 11:28 AM

Thank You... I am going to try them :)
