It looking awsome keep it up:)

DarkXerox 02/18/2006 03:49 PM

Travis,

I think that one of the reasons that the smaller tort piece STNed is due to the epoxy. With smaller frags, I've found that they tend to not do well when immediately mounted with a lot of epoxy, and seem to like being mounted first with superglue onto a small rock. After they heal a little, I do the superglue/epoxy sandwiching to get it onto the rockwork. I think that when they are small, the excess heat given off by the epoxy curing causes them to stress.

Tank is lookin good though! The monti caps should start plating pretty fast and will look awesome down there.

Travis Savant 02/18/2006 04:39 PM

Thanks guys.

Xerox, someone from another board gave me the same advice also. Thanks :)

DarkXerox 02/19/2006 03:03 AM

Yeah I had the same problem with some small frags I got in the past, but I'm glad I learned about superglue gel haha.

DarkXerox 02/20/2006 06:08 PM

hmm the valida doing any better? You might want to consider switching to a higher kelvin bulb if the PAR is too high for the SPS in the center. 14k might be a nice compromise.

Travis Savant 02/20/2006 07:40 PM

I think the Validia died because there was either too much water flow, which is now fixed, or there was too much light (8 hours per day) I have now fixed that by cutting back to 6 hours per day. The Silver Bullet is on top higher than the Validia and it is doing well.

did your green stuff ever turn into the purple coraline aglae ?

Travis Savant 02/24/2006 11:05 PM

It's still in the process, but there's alot more pinks and purples.

alien9168 02/25/2006 12:23 PM

Very nice travis!

You have some good looking sps in there!

And finaly, the coral that has grown the fastest base...

What do you guys think?

cmondo 02/25/2006 07:20 PM

I think that I am really liking that "silver bullet".

From your pictures it doesn't seem like you have much corraline growth, have you seen any?

Your tank looks immaculate, but I haven't seen any snails or hermits or anything. Do you have a cleanup crew?

Keep up the good work.

Chris

mr.bear 02/25/2006 08:41 PM

all i gotta say is neat!

Travis Savant 02/25/2006 10:37 PM

cmondo, I have some Coraline, but the lighting isn't letting it grow in the well lit areas. I have more coraline in the caves than I do on top. The coraline is a dark green and I am starting to see some pinks and purples. I have 6 or 7 snails and they do a nice job. I had a hermit, but I think he died or he is a realy cood hidder.

Thanks mr.bear :)

Very nice :) I have no experience with SPS but I really like montis and am starting to get the SPS bug...I think the solution might be a nano like yours. If you don't mind me asking, what is a ballpark figure for what the setup cost you? I don't want to offend you, but I really like your tank :)

Travis Savant 02/26/2006 11:09 PM

Around $1200 without livestock.

cmondo 02/27/2006 12:16 AM

I just noticed in that cali tort growth pic there is a small purple piece that looks to be the same color as the tort at the bottom of the epoxy. Is that another piece growing out at the bottom?

Travis Savant 02/27/2006 09:12 AM

It was a small fragment that fell off when I had to frag the Tort, I think the snails moved it and it got kicked up in the current, so I have no idea where it is now.

aural 02/27/2006 10:29 AM

that is a hella sweet tank... i must say that 1200 not including livestock seems a bit steep to me. I'm setting up a custom built 40 gal with starphire glass and a built in sump w/ remora and a 250 watt DE fixture and i'm under 1200 bucks with a custom stand included.

but anyway - i like your tank... where do you get your SPS from? My local shops dont get any good sps. (and if they do they keep it for themselves!)

Tat2d 02/27/2006 10:40 AM

Very nice, gonna look even nicer when they all grow in. Keep up the good work dude.
