I have a clown fish I inherited. How do I tell if its a Percula or Ocellaris?

Thanks.

Perculas have bigger black lines and somtimes can go from white strip to white stripe. Ocellaris do have black lines but the are very thin and stay right up against the white stripe.

Technically, it gets down to counting fin rays and spines, although even with that, there is some overlap. Generally the bolder black lines are good, IMO, true percs have better/brighter coloration than ocellaris.

With tank raised clowns can can be hard to tell until they grow up some.

Can you post a pic of em?

This is about the definitive way, and then a little hint from what the clownfish looks like

A. percula - 9-10 Dorsal Spines
A. ocellaris - 10-11 Dorsal Spines

HAHA, good luck getting him to hold still long enough to count em, I'm still trying to count all the spines on my occellaris, just for kicks though

I'll see if I can get a pic. But from the descriptioins it sounds like I have an ocellaris. I want to get a second one, and wanted to be certain which I had.
Thanks.

watch em turn out to have 10 dorsal fins, lol. FWIW, i think the occellaris looks more like a "nemo" than a percula does. At least an adult percula, the juvi's kinda all look the same to me.
