I have a 29 gallon with 108 W of power compact lighting I just took down my 90 gallon that has 250w mh's on it. SO my question is would one 250w mh be to much for the 29g tank. Right now I just have some hammers and mushrooms but I also took some SPS that came from my 90 and I would like to get some clams.

250 would not be too much, you'd be fine especially for SPS and clams

that would be fine for all kinds of things

i have a 250w 14k over a 20l and it's all good ;)

I use 3 PC fans to keep the temp around 79F .....

i had a 250w DE MH over a 29g for a couple years. heat was an issue so i kept it open top and had a house fan blowing over the top of the tank and temp stayed right around 80 degrees. i kept the light about 12-14" off the surface to control the heat and spread the light evenly over the entire tank.

I say if you mount it 8 inches you would be fine, as that is what most people do, including myself. Ventilation in the key here. Make sure you have a bunch of fans to keep it cool.
