is it possible that coraline algae will not grow in a fish only tank??? with only a piece of live rock cover with coraline algae, others are not live rocks...all the test result are fine except nitrate, and I found some slime algae begin to grow in the tank...will phosphate be the problem???

I have a FOWLR also, my LR was pretty much dead when I got it, but after a month coralline algae starts to show up in patches through out the tank

sea-horsea,
Coralline will definitely grow in a FOWLR tank, provided the water peramters are right. Phosphate could be a problem, I've seen some threads discussing this [can't remember which board :(

It will grow on nearly everything and anything, powerheads, glass, overflows, etc.

If you want really good growth, you'll need to keep the water perameters at pretty much what you'd want for a reef tank. Ca 400 ppm, pH 8.3, Alk >3.5 meq/L.

Heck, why not do a reef? :D
