well it depends what you want. for an over flow box you should prob drill near the bottom and build like a stockman or durso drain.

you should also drill 2 smaller holes somewhere in the middle area for a closed loop now. i wished i did!
look in the diy forum for more there a million posts on drilling. do a search before posting a question though!

where you drill the hole depends on where you want to place your overflow box. drill on the sides for a corner overflow, and in the center for a center overflow. As far as how far up to drill, I would drill leaving at least 3-4" from the bottom of the hole to the bottem of the tank. The size of the hole depends on the size of the bulkhead you want to use. I think it is better to use a larger bulkhead for better drainage. A 1" bulkhead uses a 1 3/4" hole, 1 1/2" bulkhead uses 2 3/8" hole. those are standard bulkheads, not heavy duty ones.

as far as size a 1 inch is pretty standard but if toy can go inch and a 1/4 or 1/2 would be better. a 1inch is suppost to be capiable of doing 600gph-ish i find that is prob high. i go from a 1'bulkhead to a 1 1/4 pipe and i drain maybe 400gph
