I'm looking at getting one of these for my office and have some questions--How many of you have these? Any problems? Any heat related problems with the metal hallides? Does anyone have a cover or made a cover with some type of screening? I don't want to do a lot of mods and was looking for a tank I could keep some clams, no sps yet, but possibly in the future--If you own this is there another model you would have bought instead? Just looking for some feedback--Thanks

i run open top. maxijet 1200, have the Sunpod 150. max temp is 81. you can find a light grill that they use for florecent lighting in black if you look hard enough, but IMO there is no need if you dont have fish that want to visit the naighbors.
be careful where in your office you want to keep it. sun, heater, a/c...bla bla bla.
wait on the clams for a while, find other EASIER and CHEAPER things you can keep.
nothing happens quickly in saltwater other than death
good luck

I've found a couple of threads from ppl with these.. haven't heard of anyone keeping any sps in it though, and I want one to keep SPS in.. (some ppl say 70 watts will only be enough for top 1/2 of the tank) but i haven't seen any posts from ppl who actually tried it.. (search function doesn't seem to ever be enabled anymore)... as far as heat goes everyone seems to replace the stock pumps with maxijets (reducing heat by up to 5 degrees) .. i think july865 isn't talking about an aquapod..

I've found the aquapod w/mh 70 watt as low as $269... can't remember which website.. i used metacrawler.com and i think keywords were something like aquapod metal halide or aquapod 24g something like that..

Does everyone think the 70w bulb would be enough for SPS? Im gonna be getting a 150 probably but might go for the 70. Later Ryan

I have the 150w and wouldn't suggest anything less.

I finnaly found a couple of websites that sell the 150 watt version, Dave was right.. 329 for the 150 watt at fosters & smith's was the lowest I could find.. (not too many online retailers are selling them yet) I don't think I'll get a 250 watt for a 24 gal (actually its more like 20 gal anyway)..

dude.. what where you smoking...lol
and its only $17.00 difference between the 70w and the 150w......daaahh... no brainer!!
stay out of the 250w for the AP 24... you are going to need a chiller unless you strictly stay with tropical stuff that avg in the 82-84deg range. trust me on that.
now, if you want the WAVE of the future. its going to be LED's. and for $800.00 +. 50,000hrs of operation, no lamp changes, no heat to worry about. elect bills at a minimum.. hmm. but i'll wait. and stop thinking in watts... its the PAR (or PUR) you are really after... and dont just follow the crowd..
