Hey guys, this tanks for my roomate. I didn't take pictures of every step, but here is the almost finished product. We bought black plexi and cut it to size; the faux overflow box is 3"x5". We then cut ridges with a triangle file. Cut holes to size needed. Siliconed the walls up and the fittings in the holes. Lastly, I painted the back wall black just today.

The concept of the tank is similar to many others: a clean simple look without the presence of mechanics in the display (aside from the outlets : P). Tomorrow we run a smoke test.

The equipment includes:
1. Rio 600 PH (I know these aren't the best)
2. AC 50 power filter (will turn to small fuge in the future)
3. 50w heater
4. Starting out with the Coralife 28w PC with a short photoperiod until the tank is established a bit. Upgrade after 2 months to probably just a higher PC but considering a 150w MH with 14k Phoenix.

Let me know what you think!

Well, I was going to wait until tomorrow to post the pics with water, but since you asked Drummereef, here a pic with water. Don't mind the oversized PC lighting, I've still got to get my light out of storage. :) Enjoy!

Romeo22: I figure you might be joking, but if you're serious let me know. :)

Nice, just wish you had gone with black silicone on the back overflow and even redid the corners

Thanks for the all the comments guys!
Jacsubi: Very funny Hal! No, your right, that was some good rock. Thanks for the help buddy!

Drummereef: Thanks! Actually, I threw the bag away for the sand so I'm not sure what type it is. I always liked the look so I thought I'd try it. :)

FLricordia: Yeah, I definitely know what you mean now that you mention it. Where do you get black silicone for aquaria use? I'm thinking about building another for someone else; this tank build's for my roomate. (I made him jealous with my 30 gal! :))

I get it at the local hardware. As long as it is 100% silicone than it is OK. Just want to avoid the mold resistant type.
I am doing a 2.5 gl AGA maybe so I might steal your overflow. I have an AC 30. Nice set-up BTW if I didn't mention it already. The black sand did the trick. I wish I could get it locally. Hope you keep us posted on its progress.

Thanks GSMguy! I'm glad people are liking the design; not much to it either, super easy! Keep me posted if you do decide to do one. How tall is a 15 hex?

Found this thread and like the idea. Just wondering what was used to attach the PH to the outlets. I have an extra 10gal laying around and I think I'm going to do something similar.

Thanks.

kaserpick-

Looking good! Are you happy with your light? My 10g is up and I need a light. I am leaning toward the 28w coralife. I saw another 10g build with a 96w.... I think its too much.

I run the 96 watt power quad on my 10 gallon and by no means is it too much. Never had any problems with it. Just have to make sure to change your bulbs when needed.
