how many fish do you think i should have for my 8 gallon bio cube.

Depends on what kinds you get.
You could get a small goby like a neon goby (I have mine and don't even consider him a bioload impact).
Add a small sandsifter that doesn't eat much like a Yellow Watchman Goby and finish it off with a firefish.
I bet you could make that work, just don't add them all at once and keep up with waterchanges.

You should probably only have 1 in that size tank. The only fish that would really work long term would be a goby, and if you put two types of gobies that are similar in the same tank, they may fight ill the death.

Water changes should be done every week or every other week. In an 8 gallon, I would do 1-2 gallons.

A pistol shrimp and shrimp goby pair would be a very neat idea in that size tank.

I have a 24 gallon nano, I would do weekly waterchanges of 1 or 2 gallons.

Like I said the Neon Goby is tiny, the YWG does his own thing (mainly burrows and hangs out) and the firefish isn't a poop machine or a messy eater.

I think if done right you could get away with the 3 I listed, it's not 1 per gallon, that is an urban freshwater legend.

Ide agree with 1. Anything else is just cruel, that tank is too small.

I wish it was 1inch per gallon. Then I can have 30 fish in my tank :), But I don't even think I have the money for 30 SW fish. So much more expensive then FW.

There are many things one must think about when stocking a tank. A vauge rule of thumb is 1" of fish per 3-4 gallons for SW tanks. So if you've got an 8 gallon tank then maybe 3" of fish ... like 2 small gobies.


Consider the overall size of the fish. A 2" neon goby will have 1/3 the bioload of a 2" clownfish.


One last thing to think about is how the fish behaves. A jawfish will not swim around much and mostly stay in his burrow, so he won't need much swimming room. A wrasse on the other hand, likes to swim all over the place and needs more space to roam.

No, not 12. I have a YWG, Madrin, tiny flounder, cowfish, clownfish and shrimp, snails and crabs.
Wasn't trying to be a smarty butt, I'm just doing this on my own by the seat of my pants.

seat of my pants as well i would say damn thats allot for a nano i would bet your mandarin is starving what does a tiny flounder eat oh and cowfish can bite shrimp snails and crabs but hey you put them in there you know the deal i hope

Each of them are very small except the Mandrin. The Cowfish is the size of a small gumball, the flounder is smaller than a cracker, YWG is barely the size of a peanut in a shell, the Percula is tiny too

Wow! I dont ever think Ive heard of anyone keeping those fish in a nano before! Do you have room to move them when they grow? Is the Mandarin eating frozen food then?

ASSumption they will go in a larger tank isee she has a 30 that will be plenty big for the cowfish but that flounder will need a big cold tank i think

That is correct...I smply use the nano cube for a "preschool" if you will. When things out grow the 30 gal I trade them in so I always have a variety of thing to look at.
