Hi everyone.

I just checked my ph and it is 8.5
Everything looks okay fish and corals but i do know this is not a good thing. It is -30 outside and have not had any windows open obviously.
So how do i deal with this in the winter? This is my first winter with a tank and would prefer it not to crash because it is cold here for the next 4 months...yipeeeeee...lol

Anyways here are my other test results. My dkh is low and i wonder if that is not helping or if it is linked???

Salinity-1.026
Ph:8.5
Trite:0
Trate:5
Calcium:400
Dkh:7.8

What to do?

are you dosing anything to your tank? also here is some good reading on high pH. also 8.5 shouldn't harm anything, it is on the high side but nothing to stress about yet.

What are you measuring the pH with, a meter? Check out this article for starters. http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2005-03/rhf/index.php

I am dosing a 2 part. And have been gone for 2 days so unable to dose. Good to know that it is okay so far just want to prevent it from happening anymore:)

Nope using a salifert kit. It is usually pretty good never had a problem but my windows have never been closed this long either. I have a window right beside the tank but it is to bloody cold to open it:)

Sounds like you are doing fine, 8.5 is a little high, but not bad. Did you measure in the morning or evening? Your tank is likely to swing a fair amount over the course of a day (Mine swings about 0.3 or 0.4 from morning to evening).

FWIW, having your windows open would normally _increase_ your PH not decrease it. The reason closed houses affect PH is that they tend to have a higher CO2 concentration than outside air. That CO2 then enters the water and causes the PH to drop.
