Hello all,
I have been working on this tank for awhile now, but think I am finally ready for comments about my set-up. So here it goes, I have a 55 main tank, mixed reef, mostly sps and a good sized Crocea clam on the upper shelf of my reef. I also have a 20 gallon sump with a euro reef skimmer(rated for a 90gallon), and a mag 9.5 for the return. I have a refugium located behind the maintank. I pump water out of the maintank with a penguin 1140, and overflow from the refugium straight down into the sump. I light my maintank with a 6x54 watt t5 setup w/ ind. reflectors, using 3x10k, and 3x420nm blue. I light the refugium w/ 4x65 pc's. Please feel free to give honest constructive feedback, as I am still learning in my reef journey. Thank you for taking the time to view.

Nice setup! Is your tank not the standard 12" width of a 55? I just got lights for my 55 but its the 4x 54W setup from teklights- I was afraid if i went with 6 bulbs the light would hang out too far and be wasted.

I also noticed how white your coloration is- many folks I notice with T5s have a more blue hue- I think its your equal white and actinic 3 ...
Have you considered trying throwing a 460nm bulb in there? It's slightly more purple and can help make some of your colors really pop out (don't noticei t so much with such a white color but i like the white!)

Really nice looking! I really like the red mushroom too. That and those yellow polyps will spread like crazy i bet :)

Thanks guys,
My lighting is a bit white/ yellow, I am in the process of upgrading all bulbs, to add more blue. I will be adding as follows: Giesemann 2x 6000k mid-day. 1x11k aqua blue plus, 2x pure actinic, and 1x actinic plus... I feel this configuration should give me the growth of corals I am looking for but offset by a stronger blue influence which is more appealing. As far as fish, I have a yellow tang, mated perc's, six-line wrasse, and a scooter blenny. By the way, I may have OCD, but I can't stand algae build up, I scrape regularly....lol Thanks again all....

Very cool thanks for the info and really enjoy the pics. I jump on every 55g thread i see now for ideas on mine.

How do you like the perc pair? I hope to get some for mine but I want to wait until I have a nice large piece of coral for them to host in .. Taking care of an anemone with a mixed coral reef sounds like a bit of a hassle for me but i am hoping to be able to watch their symbiosis with whatever the find a home in :)

I will never part w/ my perc pair, they have been w/ me since the beginning.... I got them as juveniles almost 2 yrs ago, and they have survived many changes, and I still am looking for ways to create yet a better home for them. I am limited to apartment lifestyle, so I am not quite sure about a larger tank yet, I fight the urge to go bigger every day....lol...

I've got my system down so pat and am relatively happy with my set-up now. The urge to go bigger has faded. I'm content.

I go back and forth, but have some nice sps frags, and would really like to keep everything in control, so the idea of cycling a new tank, more LR, the hassle, and everthing else may not be worth it right now......

I'm in a townhome myself so anything bigger than 55 is one of those dreams that "it gets installed when the new bigger house gets built" sort of things :)

I'm trying to graduate so i can help support myself and my husband... by then maybe our combine income can afford to have someone set everything up from the get go so it isnt a hassle and i can take over from there.

Wish i had a tank big enough to swim in! ;p $15 per dive anyone? But seriously i'd love to go into the 100s or 300s in an in wall system.. some day.. far, far away ;p

Nice tank . i noticed some montipora and acropora. I hope you drip kalkwasser for those fellas. By using kalwasser you nail your ph right where you need it.
