G'day

About 1 month ago I bought a fish that was sold to me as a Naso vlamingi, at the time the fish was roughly 10cm (4"), at the time the fish was and still is plain silver in colour. I figured that it may just be a late bloomer and might develope spots as it gets a little larger. It is now about 13cm (5") and is still plain silver in colour.

I've done a bit more reasearch, and have I'd it as Naso annulatus!!!

It is currently in a 8x2x2.5 mixed reef. Does anyone have any experience with this fish? anyone ever kept one?

I am moving house in ~2years (house has just started being built) my new house will have a large display tank apon completion. So space isn't a real issue. I also doubt that the fish will reach 1M (100cm), I'd be happy with a good 70cm out of it.

Here are a couple average pics of my little fella, the brown marks are less visible in person but the fish has had them since its purchase, something i didnt notice at the store, but he is very healthy and eats like a horse, would eat all day if i allowed it too -

Here is a link that has a pic that is spot on the money, exactly the same as my fish -

urbor is right, and that fish gets a little over 2 ft long when you include the head spike. ive also met people with the same fish and theyve had them for 20+ years

Naso annulatus maximum length is 100cm.

I have mine in a 8x2x2.5 as a grow out now. I also have a 8x3x2.5. That he can go into if he outgrows my 8x2 before my new house is finished being built. As I will have a large in wall set-up then.

Anyone keep any of the larger Naso species?

Look at the bottom pic. Although my pics don't show it my fish is almost identical to that one. It has the white ring around the beginning of the tail. It also has the white margin along the end of the tail.

Cheers for trying to ID my fish, but you are wrong.

how white is the ring around the caudal spine? is it very white or just a lighter shade of blue?

At times it is bright white at others its not as prominant it depends on the mood of the fish.

I don't mind which the fish is, as I bought it as a Vlamingi. But itd probably be better being a smaller brevi. Although im 95% sure its a annulatus.

Just picked up two small Unicornis, look very different to my orginal fish.

Time will tell how they all turn out.
