Hi,

I have a 180 gallon tank and would like to drill it and add a sump. I will be using a single Danner Mag-Drive 1800 rated at 1390 GPH @ 4' head. I haven't decided the sump size as of yet. If I use 3/4" bulk heads; how many would I need? Should I be using a larger size bulk head? If so; what size and how many? I am going to avoid elbows, etc by using flexible tubing if possible.

Thanks for your help,

Aaron

Use RC's calculator to play with different configurations:

I would suggest that you put in 2 1 1/4 drains. Not that you will need both of them to handle the pump you are planning on using, but so you have extra capacity for when one drain gets plugged up for some reason you will still have enough capacity to drain the tank without problems.

What I like to do is have 2 drains one setup to handle the normal flow and the second drain raised up slightly and setup so it is noisy, that way if anything slows down the flow in the main drain you will hear the problem and can correct it before you have water on the floor.

I second kgross' setup idea. I have mine setup exactly that way.
