Anyone know if putting a mouse pad in the sump for the return pump to sit on is safe for my reef?

I am looking for some padding so that the pump does not just rattle against the glass - was not sure if rubber/polyurethane was a safe material.

Thanks,

It's not safe. The rubber itself is petroleum based and the glue that hold the cloth to the rubber is probably not safe either.

May I suggest simply putting a cusion of whatever under the sump? That will still give you the dampening effect you want while leaving your water toxic-free :D

Use a plastic scrub pad.

Thanks for the ideas - I assumed it wasn't safe but was not 100% sure
