I purchased a tub today for a filter tank. It is made of 100% recycled LDPE. Is this ok to use with our reef tanks? They had both rubbermaid tanks and this brand made of ldpe, but the shape of the ldpe tank was much wider and shaped better for what I wanted, also cheaper. Is this tank ok to use being made of LDPE, what ever that is?
Thanks
Jeff

LDPE= Low Density Polyethylene

From its Wki entry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Low_density_polyethylene)

"LDPE is widely used for manufacturing various containers, dispensing bottles, wash bottles, tubing, and various molded laboratory equipment. Its most common use is in plastic bags. Other products made from it include:

* Trays & general purpose containers
* Food storage and laboratory containers
* Corrosion-resistant work surfaces
* Parts that need to be weldable and machinable
* Parts that require flexibility, for which it serves very well
* Very soft and pliable parts
* Six-pack soda can rings"

so it seems ok,

But also from the entry:
"# UV Resistance: Poor"

so, OK for a sump, maybe not so much for a refugium, because of the poor UV resistance
