Is there a moon phase calculator? I was thinking, since my computer is right beside my tank that I could use my screen saver at night to act as my moon light. Maybe even add in some shimmer effects as well. What I would need though is some way of calculating the amount of light given off of the moon at a specific time and location. Time would be mandatory but location would be a good factor for anyone who is doing a biotope.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the links, The idea wasn't to have a picture of the moon, thought that may just work, but to make the monitor the light source and vary the color to mimic moon light coming in from the surface of a rippling ocean. I'm more looking for formulas to do the work myself, hence here in the DIY section.

That's what I figured but then I came across the screensaver and figured that if it were bright enough, you could just use that and spend the extra free time babysitting my kids so my wife and I could go out for our anniversary.

You should be able to just right something that starts out at 100% brightness and and decreases by 1/13 each night for 13 nights, dark for 1 or 2 nights, and then goes back up to full over the next 13 days.

Getting the exact brightness would be pretty difficult since the moon's position relative to the earth varies.
