Are moonlights just lilttle blue lights? Or are they something special. Any ideas for DIY moonlights?

Thanks

you can use leds or low wattage incandescent. a lot of companies use the blue leds, they look nice. just about any low wattage bulb will work. depending on the wattage, the common design is about one bulb per foot.

Thanks, I heard of some guy using blue LED Christmas lights. I'll start looking around for something like that. Maybe blue LED ropelights would work (my tank is 60 inches long).

Thanks again

I have came up with an easiest and relatively cheap way to add moonlights. I have three 1Watt moonlights on my 43" wide tank:

The best thing about LED's is they cost less than 0.5 cents a day to operate. That's less than $1.80 a year. Incandescent will cost significantly more per watt.

I used a set of blue LED made for car highlights. It was about $15 for a set of 8 12volt lights LEDs with reflectors. I spliced them to an old 12v transformer I had lying around from some electronic game or something (I never throw out those transformer, I probably have 1 in every voltage from 2 to 18v).

I could not find a link to a blue set like I have, but here is the white version. I got mine at my local AdvanceAuto, but almost any auto parts store should have them.

I used auto leds too. its nice because they have the right resistor in them already.
