What kind of lights are you going to house in there?

Fluorescent lights.Otherwise I would have to expense too much money for electricity.Fluorescent lighting is good for the new tank,125x60x50cm,because I intend to keep button polyps, leather corals, mushrooms, which are easy corals. Why are you asking?

Looks like some nice wood.

What type is it exactly?

Is it birch?

It's marine plywood! It's durable in humid environments and it is often used as a material for constructing fishing boats. It costs 22euro/m^2,with a thickness of 1,5cm.Of course,if it is thicker it costs more(30euro/m^2,with a thickness of 2cm),but I have found that the thickness of 1,5cm is perfect for constructing my DIY canopies. Finally,it is one of the strongest woods available today.

These are two new pictures which show the DIY Aquarium Canopy painted(almost finished) with oil-based paint(which is a waterproof paint). The colour I used is almost white(colour of sugar) because it helps in lighting the aquarium.Trust me,the aquarium lighting is much more intense when using white colour paint, instead of using another colour!

looks good. as far as your electricity cost concerns, a watt is a watt essentially. so if you had 500w of fluorescent light or 500w of MH light, it will still cost about the same. the only real variable is the power consumption of the ballast with magnetic versus electronic. either way, electricity isn't that big of a deal. on my old 90, with all pumps, heaters, lights, fans, etc, it only cost $30 a month in electricity and that was with 880watts of light.
