I'm starting from scratch and wanted to know how high the light needed to be off the tank. I bought the retrofit kit from hellolights and need some dimensions for building a canopy. The metal hallide is 150W and 14K.

You may want to post this in the nano forum as well.

I have no experience with nanos, but from reading this, my first thought is that this is just gonna cook a 10G. Especially in a canopy that small. Again, since I have no experience with nanos I could be all washed up. Maybe fans could do the trick, but I just can't picture a MH fixture being safe or at least non-problematic.

My tank is a 15H, 20"x10"x18", same dimensions as 10g but taller, bought a 150W retrofit kit with a 14k Phoenix bulb. Used Melev's site (http://www.melevsreef.com/pics/1204/evans_canopy.html) as inspiration, here's how mine turned out...

It is 1/2" plywood painted flat white on the interior; fruitwood stain and polyurethane on the exterior. No screws, no nails, just wood glue. The MH retrofit is attached to the top via some long bolts that I can adjust up or down (it takes a while). Screens were for acclimation; good bye power compacts!

Let me know if you want the cut dimensions I used!
