Becareful and do not use GE II. It has mildew inhibitors in it and it almost wiped out my tank. It took a very long time for the affects to wear off.

Also avoid GE I - Kitchen & Bath. Only GE 1 Window & door.

Please stop providing incorrect information.

GE SiliconeI and SiliconeII are both safe to use as long as they do not have the mold inhibitor. Both SiliconeI and SiliconeII are available with and without the inhibitor. You need to read the tube.

AAAHHHH... this is an interesting point. I did notice that that my HD was out of the GE II without mold inhibitor, but they did have a GE lexan silicone adhesive near the plexi/lexan display. The Lexan silicone at the lexan/plexi display had the same skew as the old GE II product.

If you look at the bonding strength chart of the I vs II products, you will notice that the II has better bonding strength of plastics while keeping the same adhesive strength to glass.

I am betting that GE has re-packaged the SiliconeII without mold inhibitor as this 'new' GE silicone for lexan product.

Thanks for pointing this out LPSfan.

I probably ran into old stock. I was able to get it at my local HD about two months ago.

I would imagine that if it doesn't say it, it doesn't have it. I'm going to the ge website and see if I can't find anything.

The term that GE seems to be using is BioSeal. If the tube says BioSeal it's bad. Every product I found branded SiliconeII had the BioSeal label. The SiliconeI products were avail without the BioSeal. I couldn't find anything regarding the lexan silicone product on the GE website.

I would imagine that if you found SiliconeII, and it did not say it had BioSeal, you've found some old stock and it is most likely safe.

I recently purchased some ge SiliconI Kitchen and Bath. It states that when cured it is Mildew resistant. I can't find anything about BioSeal. I also acidentally bought white. Is this the right kind?

I have been reading other threads asking the same questions. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=970972 (http://archive.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=970972)
I have settled on using GE Silicone 1 Window and Door.

Why risk it? The silicone I got did not say anything about mold inhibitor on it. But within a matter of a few hours it was very evident that something was wrong in my tank.

Get the All Glass aquarium silicone, it is safe and you won't lose $80 worth of new frags like I did (and almost a bi-color blenny).

I have built a couple tanks with GE I Windows and Doors no problems. Be sure to let it cure for at a few days before allowing it to contact water. It will not harm anything once it is cured.

well in the very fine print on the back of my tube of GE II it specifically says not aquarium safe...:(

i had to rip everything apart and redo it with GE I...only wish i didnt buy the white stuff though...

and while we are on the topic...who has a website or a location that one could buy AGA tank silicone?

So does Southdown, and we all use that. "not aquarium safe" is part of the non-compete agreements they have that allow them to sell silicon to AGA,etc.

Coralfarm, exactly what did you use? It doesnt say "mold inhibitor," it usually says something like "bioseal." AGA is just rebadged industrial stuff.

The ge silicone I is what I've used, been told to use, & doesn't contain any mildew resistance. The geII does contain mildew resistance.

In the various inquirys to GE themselves that I've seen, they state that their Silicone II has always had BioSeal, even if not marked on the tube. No idea if this is fact or not.

I can't even find the blackSilicone I around anywhere, gotta order it online for my paludarium thats in the works.
