Aquaclears are great for the media baskets, however this is the 3rd time I've lost power and some havent restarted on they're own.

Last time one burned itself out which couldve started a fire possibly if I didnt happen to be around.

Just a friendly warning that they dont do well with power outages.

I've never had a problem with an Aquaclear or at least one that wasn't my fault; I used an Aquaclear 110 boxfilter for a refugium and managed to get sand into the impeller chamber.
Once I cleaned it out it was fine.

My mother had one fail after only 6mths, however I suspect this was her doing and not the product.

I had the same problem with Aquaclear as well.

i had issues with them in the past on a freshwater tank. i would have to fill the chamber with water remove the plastic tube that sat over it, tap the impeller and when it started to spin quickly reassemble it! did that for almost 6 months before replacing it with a whisper

yeah I just replaced another with a whisper today. No issues with power outage. Now I have several aquaclears I dont need =/

Mine have always restarted. As long as you have the box full and the magnet area is half way clean.

I just add a bit of water and they've always re-started.

I have been using AquaClear HOB filters since 1992 none have ever fail on. Also make sure to press down on "U" tube until you hear a slight click. A very low water level may affect it from coming on.

i always had the impeller chamber full of water and still i needed to tap the impellar... but hay that is just me and one filter the company wouldn't still be around if they didn't have some success

My aquaclear 75 is hit and miss too. When the power goes out and restarts, the filter usually doesn't start sucking again. I usually have to turn it to 'low' flow and then it starts to suck again.

Very annoying.

mine never prime on their own, and i have owned several. I have to prime them myself.

i don't use power filters on my salt, but i love their power heads. you can use the cage attachment to put carbon for quick polish. i've always abused those and never had a problem.
