This has just appeared on my LR, I've had the LR since August of 2001.



Any ideas?

Not sure, but I have one that just appeared on some Namoli live rock that I have had for a while as well. My guess so far is that it is a Fungia.

Kinda looks like a Plate Coral.

my guess is a fungia as well, has all the charactoristics

Anyone konw of a good site with pics of fungia? I've done a search on "fungia" but none of the picture looks like what I have, although I do see the similarity in body shape.

I wanted to post this for Dr. Ron, but the system would not let me post the same pictures twice (even after i renamed them).

ecugman- does it have a skeleton? from both pics posted it has all the visible characteristics of a Fungia (plate coral) - exact species I'm not sure of but a fungia it is...

I don't know! I'm a FOWLR guy and have NO experience with corals. How would I check, could i feel the skeleton if I touched it?

Definitely an order of the Fungiidae family (plate coral) - nice one too! Almost looks like Fungia fungites.
Target feed it some small mysis shrimp.

In respect to the skeleton, yes, you will be able to feel (or see) a whitish colored hard base that will have almost a slotted top to it.

Check out Greg Hillers post on the last page. Pretty cool to have a Fungia Factory of your own!!!

You're pretty lucky. I would also agree that it is a fungia plate coral.
