How do you fit a skimmer and pump in a wet/dry

Does the outflow of the skimmer return to the tank?

I have my skimmer hanging on the side of my sump and its return
goes back to the sump. The sump is drilled at the last chamber aso the return pump is mounted outside the sump and pumps the clean sump water back to the main tank. If you have room you can place the skimmer in the sump too.
