Ok just curious, why wont coralline algae grow on anything but the rocks??
Tank is 6 months old, 55g
Temp=79-81 degree
specific gravity=1.025
Nitrate=5ppm
cal=steady 420
dkh=10.5-11
what else woudl cause coraline not to grow?

IMO your alk is on the high side. I don't think that will have much to do with coralline. What's your Mg level. Keeping it above 1300ppm has always worked for me.

What else do you want it to grow on besides the rocks? The glass? You might regret that wish ;)

Oh how I wish the coralline wouldn't grow on the glass....

It's worse on acrylic ... much harder to scrape off with anything that is safe to use.

I only wish coralline only grew on rocks. :-)

I like it growing on my back glass, since there's nothing better to look at back there. It's either I look at pinkish/purple coralline, or the back wall of my cubicle =P

ok

I'm sorry ... my post wasn't helpful. I guess those of us who scrape think "Be careful what you wish for" when you're wanting more coralline.

Your pH, light, and nutrients in the tank can all affect coralline.

Here is one site with some FAQ on Coralline discussed and there are lots more if you do a search:

Phosphates also inhibit coralline growth and so can low flow. Are your rocks against the glass or setup in a raceway style? Do you have any powerheads blowing over your rocks? If you dont, you might consider reangling one since they can help disperse the algae spores better that way.
