ello all,
i went to my LFS to get a few astraea snails and found this one.
it was the same price as a turbo so i bought it. it would b great if some1 could tell me what it is and if its reef safe/ what it eats (eg. carni- herbi- detri- vore). thanks!

I believe that is a predatory whelk. It will probably eat other snails. Try feeding it a small piece of seafood (meat) and see what happens.

Looks like a crown conch, Melongena corona .
I have one and I'm getting rid of it. It has eaten most of the other snails in the tank. I have a rather poor picture of it eating, somewhere around here . . .

Yeah ricksreefs is right it is a florida crown conch.I had caught a few for my tank and herd 2 days later their bad so i took them out.If you start to see snails all of a sudden dying find it and take it out.My cousin was also telling me that they lay eggs pretty quick.

Wow, good old florida crown conch. Common hitchiker here that is a PITA!!
I'm surprised they sell them considering their diet. :)
